CG Generalist
Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, as well as our production Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
We are seeking a highly creative and skilled CG Generalist to join our LA Studio! The role will work closely with our Production Designer to block out, build, and refine proxy sets that support layout, cinematics, and early staging. You’ll take 2D concepts and rough sketches and bring them into 3D as simple, clean, usable environments that help define the visual language of the project.
About the Role
- Build proxy / low-res environment models in Blender based on concept art, rough sketches, and direction from the Production Designer.
- Establish accurate scale, proportions, and spatial relationships to support early layout and cinematography needs.
- Iterate quickly on environment shapes and composition based on feedback.
- Create simple set dressing and organizational structure for proxy scenes that will be handed off to downstream departments.
- Ensure models are clean, optimized, and aligned with project-specific workflows.
- Collaborate with art, layout, and production teams to maintain consistency across the project.
- Assist with basic lighting, cameras, and scene assembly tasks as needed.
- Help troubleshoot Blender workflows and contribute to building a smooth environment creation pipeline.
About You
- 2+ years of experience in CG modeling, layout, environment building, or generalist roles.
- Strong proficiency in Blender (scene assembly, modeling, simple lighting/cameras).
- Solid understanding of scale, composition, staging, and visual storytelling.
- Ability to work from concept art and iterate based on feedback.
- Experience building clean, organized proxy or low-res models.
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams.
- Experience with other 3D tools (Maya, Houdini, Substance, etc.).
