Storyboard Artist
Flying Bark Productions is working on exciting projects such as Avatar: The Last Airbender feature film, Netflix's Stranger Things animated series, as well as Tales From Outer Suburbia by Shaun Tan.
We’re looking for an experienced Storyboard Artist to join the Flying Bark team. In this role, you’ll work closely with Directors and the Story team to translate scripts into dynamic visual storytelling that captures the heart, pacing, and emotion of each sequence.
The ideal candidate is a strong visual storyteller who thrives in a collaborative environment and can balance creative problem-solving with the realities of production schedules.
About the Role
- Create clear, compelling storyboards that translate script and direction into visual storytelling
- Collaborate with Directors, Storyboard Supervisors, and the Story team to shape sequences and refine narrative beats
- Participate in story development discussions, brainstorming sessions, and creative reviews
- Communicate character emotion, action, humor, and pacing through expressive drawing and staging
- Develop sequences from quick thumbnails through to polished storyboard panels
- Work closely with the Director and Storyboard Supervisor to define camera language, staging, and shot composition
- Solve story and structural challenges while helping strengthen scenes and character moments
- Incorporate feedback and revisions efficiently while maintaining the overall vision of the sequence
- Maintain continuity and clarity across sequences, including character placement, scale, and screen direction
- Work within the studio pipeline and production schedule to ensure deliverables stay on track
- Communicate proactively with production and flag any issues that could impact delivery timelines
- Professional storyboarding experience on animated television or feature productions
- Strong traditional drawing skills including illustration
- Excellent visual storytelling instincts, including pacing, cinematography, and scene structure
- Strong sense of composition, staging, and character performance
- Ability to translate scripts into clear, engaging visual sequences
- Strong time management skills and the ability to work efficiently within deadlines
- Expertise in Storyboard Pro
- Experience incorporating proxy CG sets into storyboards
- Portfolio demonstrating dynamic action, character performance, and human figure drawing

Salary Range: $2,616 - $2,900 weekly
Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. The starting rate for this position is based on the applicable union minimum, with opportunities for placement above scale depending on experience.
